Our approach to teaching math
Step 1: Set goals via consultation
The first session will focus on listening. We will hear about the student’s background in math and dig in with both parent and student regarding why the student needs math tutoring.
Step 2: Assess current math ability
Based on the initial intake form, a custom assessment test will be created from scratch that the student will take to identify existing strengths and improvement areas. The results of this test will be reviewed with the student and any relevant family members for mutual understanding.
Step 3: Commit to a plan together
We'll discuss the student's challenges, our strategies for overcoming them, and review the personalized lesson plan, including the timeline for improvement. The lesson plan is created just for the student and is hyper-personalized to their specific needs.
Step 4: Continuously learn with regular fine-tuning and individual instruction
Students receive 1:1 coaching sessions for live discussions on mathematics. Assignments are regularly reviewed with feedback provided, and we engage in ongoing discussions with parents, particularly during the initial phase, to address any student resistance and help manage their overall workload.
Our principles
Precision Learning
You might struggle with calculus and trigonometry but outshine every other student in your class in geometry – so why would you waste time practicing geometry over and over again when there are other areas that require your attention?
At the Silicon Valley Learning Center LLC, we help identify your problem areas and develop precise learning plans that help you perfect the precise skills you might be lacking. There’s no reason to go through subject areas you’ve already mastered, and there’s no point in going over subjects that are too foreign for you at the moment.
Your lesson plans at Silicon Valley Learning Center LLC are customized to suit your specific skills and help you fill in any knowledge gaps you may have.
Step-by-Step Guidance
A student who hasn’t yet mastered the multiplication table will find it challenging to master equations with three variables.
If you want to learn math, not just memorize the formulas, you’ll need step-by-step guidance to help you slowly expand your knowledge from multiplication tables to equations with three variables.
Together, we’ll gradually go from one subject matter to another, taking the time at every step to ensure that you fully understand what you’re doing and why.
Patience
Cramming for a few days and passing an important math test is perfectly fine. However, as soon as you’re done with the test, any knowledge you may have accumulated for it will quickly fade – and that’s what we want to avoid.
Instead of making it a goal to pass your examination, we focus on helping you develop your relevant skills and knowledge over time. We focus on your long-term success, ensuring that what you learn today, you understand tomorrow.
